AS magazine reflection
Now that i will soon be starting a new course I have decided to look back at the magazine that I produced in the previous year. I will discuss the different media terminology I used, what I struggled with and what could have been improved.
This is the front cover. On this cover I decided to throw as much stuff on as possible. I included lots of sell lines, a big masthead, a skyline with a tag line, a puff (something to make the magazine better than it is, like saying its "amazing" or "best thing ever" etc.) and a big image of someone pulling silly face which a lot of rock magazines have. I decided to include a lot of this because some of it has to be on there like the masthead and some sell lines otherwise it wouldn't look like an actual magazine cover, making it very unprofessional. There were many things I struggled with when making this on photoshop. The things that were hard to deal with was the color of the text blending with the background, eventually I got around it, but it was a thing that cost me to make many drafts. Another thing was the title had to be changed to make the masthead bigger and some of the layering was a difficulty when trying to make the masthead blend into the magazine, but I eventually got around it. While I am proud of it, i will admit that it has problems like that i should have included more image of different people, I wish the title was "La noise" as opposed to just "Noise" and I think the bottom of the page could have been neater. Overall I think it's good, though it could be better.
This is my contents page. The way I decided to layout this page wad to list out the different contents of the magazine in order of page number, alough the main articles have a section of their own, this was to make them stand out to the reader and tell them that this is the big story. I put in features like a puff, bullet points, images, a subscriber box, a list of the regular features and many other different conventions in a magazine contents page. I included these because I wanted my contents page to look professional, attractive and readable to the target audience. Out of all the pages for the magazine I feel that this is the best out of the three, though when making it the layout had went through many different changes and alterations, which was rather annoying and it was also rather hard to come up with descriptions for each feature, but apart from that I think its very good.
This is the my double page spread. A lot of music magazines have their DPS designed with a big image taking up the first page and the 2nd page made upon mostly text. I decided to follow this layout because i felt it would be easier to design it that way and it looks neater. In this DPS I included When writing the article I included a pull quote, alliteration, a drop capital, etc. I decided that my article would be an interview from doing a survey and the result was that interviews were the most popular of articles. Looking back I have noticed some problems with this part of the magazine like some grammatical errors are present, not obvious ones but along the way I made some spelling mistakes, the columns are rather unbalanced in terms of placement. While I do think it is good overall, there are small entails that I feel could have been improved.
